But they are manipulating them the pre-Windows 10 way. (I bet somebody got a really nice bonus for that feature). ![]() So they manipulate the registry keys directly. Program X wants to set itself as the user's preferred handler, but they want to do so without requiring the user to confirm the change. ![]() The feature team for file associations explained that Windows 10 changed the way the user's file associations are recorded. They use the "Set Default Programs" control panel to change the default handler to Program X, but the changes don't stick past a reboot. What have you lost in MS 'upgrades' that made your life harder?ĮDIT: Perhaps I'm missing the bigger picture and there are ways that MS is making it easier for us admins. You must scroll more or search and I suppose for the few that don't rely on their system administrator to add and remove software it's maybe a little friendlier, but it's not easier or better. Now it doesn't matter what option I do on this fresh 2016 server I can't "find" the updates. This used to actually return a result that gave a link to the windows updates. ![]() I'm assuming in the name of making things easier for those who simply use. They seem to be breaking more and more of the small things that make life easy for those of us who administer. Simple things like checking on update settings, or even just finding the specific file you are looking for. I admit I write this post out of frustration but I can't see how it is just me.
